to honor those who fought...

by me.

With a warm breeze caressing my face and birds chirping in the trees above, I visited the cemetery today to pay my respects to those who died in battle. I did not know a single person who was buried there but I still felt like I owed it to them; to their sacrifice. To those sons and fathers who gave up the life at home to fight overseas in a battle that they believed in. I went for those courageous men and women who fought in World War 2 and Vietnam. Those who died in Iraq and those who came home never to be the same again.
And I am convinced that no matter who it is that leaves home and joins the forces, no matter what the reason, they leave a hole that can never be replaced. and honestly? I wasn't alive during World War 2. I never experienced the horrors of that war or many of the others. but I do know what it is like to have a loved one go to war and to have them come back and never be the same again. Their stories are chilling and I know a part of them is forever broken. However, I am blessed that no one close to me has gone to war and never come back, but my heart goes out to those who have experienced that pain..
And so here's to those who died in the wars. Here's to the women and children I saw in the graveyard, to those who were lovingly attending the grave of a dearly departed one. Here's to those hundreds of courageous people who died in the escape from Sobibor during World War 2, to those who have to go on without a husband, boyfriend, son, or brother or any other loved one.

you aren't forgotten and live on in our hearts forever.

hugs to those who are feeling pain today; you're in our thoughts.
