So you smile.
I've been thinking about this a lot... about the masks we put on so no one will see our inner struggle and the grief we try so hard to hide. But what if we let those feelings show? What if we drop all the pointless facades and tell them that we hurt?
Because I know that I love experiencing the honest moments in a person; when they come to me with tears in their eyes and whisper brokenly....
"my heart aches..."
We all cry. We all feel and we all have inner battles.
There is a beauty to a smile that cannot be described... because it is real. And yet tears are beautiful as well because they show me that the person is broken; that their heart is crying out. And I believe with all my heart that Jesus hears those cries.
It is like when a child just gets out of bed: their eyes are just beginning to register the wonders of a brand new day... they blink several times, yawn, rub their eyes and run a hand through their hair. There is so much beauty in honest moments... the moments when we think no one is watching; when no one will care or criticize us. When we are free to be. To be everything that Jesus created us to be. for Him.
It could be a moment spent dancing in the rain and letting the soft droplets of water wash away the grime and weight on your soul... maybe it is a quiet moment in the soft light of a sunset spent talking to Jesus and singing a song that simply bursts from your lips.
It could be that moment when you look over at the person you love to see if they are watching you too; it could be when you spontaneously help that woman across the street for no other reason than it is what Jesus would do. Maybe it is a moment in the coffee shop and your gaze meets that of someone else's and just for a moment everything goes completely silent and time stops still.
It could be that time you stood on that mountain and walked right up to the edge of the cliff. You look down; you look up and up and realize that there is no end to the sky. So you lift up your hands and praise the One that made all of this.
Maybe it is a laugh... a look... a cry... a prayer... a hug or a helping hand.
but whatever it is, let it be an honest moment.

A very needed post! We live in a world of theatrical performances all around us, which makes it really scary to be yourself and honest. To be honest means to be vulnerable and at the mercy of others, but it is worth it. Be yourself-stay true to what you are!
